Bondi Innovators: Susan Banhegyi on Women in Crypto

This week we have a quick interview with the multi-talented Susan Banhegyi – a conscious capitalist, fashion/textile designer, entrepreneur who was a digital nomad before the term existed.

She’s worked around the world from Hong Kong to Paris, London, Barcelona, New York. From being the creative director at DV8 designs to the GM of The Organic Trust (an exporter of award-winning organic, gourmet food products to Asia + Europe) and many more ventures you can find on her Linkedin.

She co-founded Crypto Women Global in 2018 with the wonderful mission to educate 1 million women to invest, participate and benefit from the wealth creation opportunities in the crypto space. And fund social impact projects around the world that lift women and their communities out of poverty.

In this interview she discusses this along with how she sees Bondi and Byron Bay morphing together and the release of her new book “Women in Crypto” in December 2020.

Susan Banhegyi:
Susan, wonderful to have you hear.

Ross:
Thank you, Ross. It’s good to be here.

Susan Banhegyi:
So please tell us your story.

Ross:
Okay. So, in a nutshell, my parents were immigrants to Canada from Hungary. So I grew up in Canada. Traveled all over and studied a bit in Paris, fashion design, and then I came to Australia. And my career as a textile designer allowed me to work all over the world.

Susan Banhegyi:
Fantastic.

Ross:
Digital nomad.

Susan Banhegyi:
Digital nomad, before it was a term. Yeah.

Ross:
I love digital with nomad, anyways, certainly.

Susan Banhegyi:
Yeah. I’ve been living in Bondi for over 20 years now, on and off.

Ross:
So what are your current projects? What are you working on at the moment?

Susan Banhegyi:
At the moment, I co-founded Crypto Women Global in September of 2018.

Ross:
Fantastic.

Susan Banhegyi:
With the mission to bring one million women into the crypto space, because I think there’s a huge transition happening at the moment and I really don’t want women to be left out. There’s a lot of decisions to be made and women need to have a voice.

Ross:
Absolutely. So you’ve been Bondi for a long time, so why do you choose Bondi?

Susan Banhegyi:
I love Bondi. My boy grew up here. He was a Bondi boy. He’s moved back to Europe now. So yeah, it’s a very laid back feeling. It’s changed a lot, obviously, over the 20 years, but I hang around a lot in Byron as well. And it’s unusual to watch how they’re morphing into each other.

Ross:
Yes.

Susan Banhegyi:
There’s a Byron vibe coming into Bondi, and vice versa. So there’s a lot of energy I think here. All the locals know each other, which is great.

Ross:
Yeah.

Susan Banhegyi:
So it has that village-y almost atmosphere, but then you have the influx of foreigners and cultures and languages and music. So it’s a really vibrant mix, but still retains a nice chilled vibe.

Ross:
I think so, too.

Susan Banhegyi:
Yeah.

Ross:
So Bondi is great now, so what’s the potential though? Where can we take Bondi, and how do we get there?

Susan Banhegyi:
I think there’s just so many creative people here and I think it’s really just a matter of connecting, which is what you’re doing, which is great, because we have little pockets, clusters of people that you know, and there’s so much energy and creativity around and it really needs a place where we can all communicate and collaborate and exchange ideas. And so it’s great what you’re doing.

Ross:
Just try to do my bit. So you have a book?

Susan Banhegyi:
Yes, yes. I wrote a book. I birthed a book over five months.

Ross:
Congratulations.

Susan Banhegyi:
It’s still in final stages of editing, due out in December.

Ross:
Uh-huh (affirmative).

Susan Banhegyi:
So we’ll post a link because there’s a 50% discount offer pre-launch. So we’ll post a link somewhere. And it is my personal journey in the crypto space, which is still very male-dominated. So it’s called Women In Crypto, because I want to bring more women in to share the exciting journey. So it’s out in December.

Fantastic.
