Angelique Mentis of ThatsMySpot

We were delighted to interview Angelique Mentis of ThatsMySpot for Bondi Innovation Forum last week.

Angelique, the founder and owner of thatsmyspot.com.au, started the company in 2009 with the goal of addressing the annoyance of people parking in her designated spot. As a busy professional and mother of three, she needed her parking space available for her own use. Recognizing that this was a widespread issue, Angelique was determined to find a solution and thus created thatsmyspot.com.au.

Today, the company is renowned for providing smart parking solutions, including parking bollards in manual, remote control, and smartphone form. Their range caters to various settings and aims to deliver the best parking solution for individual needs, making customers’ lives easier and stress-free when it comes to parking.

In this interview, Angelique not only addresses the issue of parking infringement but also shares her insights on the future growth of Bondi.

So our innovation solves a pain point that so many people experience and which causes a lot of frustration. It’s around parking. And the problem with parking is you want to have note that you’ve got your own secure parking spot and not have other people parking it. So whether it’s in your apartment building, whether it’s in a shopping center, or whether it’s an EB, electric vehicle, charging bay, that you want to make sure that you’ve got access to when in concert, people park in that spot, and you can’t use it. It’s a huge problem. So innovation solves this because we have a physical device that you put in the bay, and it’s called a parking bike, and you can automate it, and you can book and reserve and secure that parking bay for when you need it.

If you haven’t noticed, parking is a huge problem in Bondi and especially with the influx of tourists over the summer, it will soon be a need to have security and knowledge that they can park in their own parking spots. If they want to monetize these spots, they can rent them out to people. So you can share access to your parking band, which is physically secure without people and you can make some money off this, but it’s having that certainty of knowledge. And especially about QC equals now and I know Waverly Council is really on the uptake for electric vehicles, having security and knowledge that you’ve got guaranteed availability to charge that electric vehicle rather than having people with petrol cars parking them, and you caught us just like January promenade.
