Bondi Innovation’s annual Entrepreneurs Christmas Party 2023 was a fabulous success, with many new people joining the existing community to pack out the Curlewis Bar at Hotel Bondi.
To kick off the all-star panel of Annie Liao of Aura Ventures, Jonathan Barouch of Local Measure, and James Alexander of Galileo Ventures discussed the most interesting developments in 2023 and what to expect in 2024.
The big themes of the conversation included AI and how that can be applied by entrepreneurs in all domains, the venture capital markets beginning to come back, and perhaps most of all a strong shared belief in the state and potential of Sydney and Australia as wonderful places to do startups.

Mayor of Waverley Paula Masselos was scheduled to welcome guests but unfortunately recently caught Covid and was unable to join us. I passed on her festive wishes, passion for innovation in Bondi, Waverley’s work on its Innovation Roadmap and Smart Waverley Strategy, and the soon-launched Boot Factory and Mill Hill precinct which will house a variety of innovation initiatives including its Thinker-in-Residence program.
Wentworth Federal MP Allegra Spender briefly welcomed the event attendees emphasizing her strong support for innovation in the region.
We continued with celebrations, connections and making merry, with an open bar and great food from Hotel Bondi. Many connections made and potential ventures spawned!

What’s coming for Bondi Innovation in 2024
We are aiming to pick up pace in 2024, continuing with our mission of connecting and catalysing the extraordinarily talented people who live in Bondi region to enable inspiring innovation, ventures, and value creation.
Initiatives will include a Founders Lunch, Innovation Breakfasts in Bondi Junction, continuing our Generative AI Leaders Lunch series, creating a Speaker series, and other initiatives to help Bondi region become a world-class innovation center.
This will all be enabled by setting up a membership structure so that we can grow our work. Details coming soon!
